Extended Operating Program

Extended Operating Program

23rd Oct 2018

A viable alternative to the purchase of new hardware is to maintain an existing infrastructure via an Extended Operating Program (EOP) solution. Although not a radical alternative, it is one which many organisations are now seriously considering. By opting to extend the life of your equipment, you are selecting a viable, feasible and practical alternative to unnecessary CapEx with the purchase of replacement systems. Extending the life of your hardware via a BASE IT EOP solution allows you to maximise your return on investment while reducing operational expenditure with lower support costs.

Understanding the IT hardware lifecycle

We all understand the Hardware warranty process. Most organisations have three and five-year hardware warranty lifecycle programs in place before considering refreshing hardware environments. What happens when customers need to extend support for a longer period of time and beyond? Manufacturers will provide an End of Life (EOL) date for hardware when production will stop. Manufacturers will then move to an End of Primary Support (EOPS) date when all support will cease and finally manufactures will announce an End of Service Life (EOSL) date which denotes the model obsolete. The frequently common questions asked during the hardware lifecycle are, what am I duly entitled to? what level of service can I expect to receive? and finally, has exposure to service risk increased?

The Extended Operating Program from BASE IT takes away doubts or worries about manufactures support after the initial warranty period leading up to hardware EOL dates and beyond. To understand if your hardware has reached or is about to reach a manufactures end of life date please contact one of our account managers.

A few key points of BASE IT extended operating programme
  • Significant savings with EOL support from BASE IT compared to vendor support which is being withdrawn.
  • Working with you to ‘bank’ any IP such as firmware, patches and updates from the vendor that you are entitled to.
  • A Digital Media Retention (DMR) policy as an option.
  • Provision of technical support from a dedicated support desk.
  • Continuity of hardware support until economically unviable due to availability of parts.
  • Tangible on-site hardware spares cache.

Engaging with BASE IT could provide the cost savings that you may require with an ‘Extended Operating Program’ (EOP). Although this is not unique, we believe that our comprehensive services package exceeds in areas that many customers are unable or unlikely to receive from the manufacturer.
