New hardware

Working with established resellers, distributors, brokers and other partners across the world, we are able to offer not only competitive pricing but often shorter lead times. We can supply server, storage and networking platforms from all the leading vendors, including but not restricted to Cisco, Dell, EMC, Fujitsu, HP, IBM, and NetApp.

There is a range of terminology used to describe the product status of new hardware. The following glossary defines these for equipment offered to customers from the official channel and brokerage market, including equipment from cancelled orders, overstocking or new systems broken up into their constituent parts for spares.

Factory Sealed/New Retail – The hardware is unused and factory sealed in original manufacturer packaging and typically comes with full warranty.

New Open Box – The hardware is unused, but the original packaging seal is broken or cut. This equipment is typically offered with most or all of its manufacturer warranty.

New – The hardware is unused with or without original manufacturer packaging, such as bulk, new pulls, or spares. The hardware is typically supplied with most or all of its original warranty.

Pre-owned hardware

Businesses, public sector and other organisations are all under increasing pressure to reduce their IT expenditure and make their budgets go further. As such, many of these institutions are exploring alternative ways of using their limited capital and are increasingly turning to the pre-owned IT equipment market to meet their upgrade, additional capacity and hardware refresh requirements.

As with new hardware, there is a number of different terms which are used to describe the condition of pre-owned equipment. The following glossary explains the terminology for equipment which may have been deployed for a period of time and includes hardware from the latest technology in the form of ex-demonstration products, cancelled projects and liquidation stock, through to hardware which has been declared ‘End-of-Life’ (EOL) by the manufacturer.

OEM Renew, Remanufactured, Refurbished – Hardware that has been returned to the manufacturer which has gone through a process of renewal with the vendor or Original Equipment Manufacturer(OEM). Typically this equipment comes with a full manufacturer warranty.

Refurbished/Reconditioned - Hardware which has been previously owned and subsequently cleaned, tested and returned to its original level of operation prior to shipment. Equipment is typically offered with a minimum of 90 days warranty, which for many products can be upgraded to one year for a nominal charge.

Used/Pre-Owned – Hardware that has been tested to work but has not been refurbished. Typically this equipment is offered with a 90-day warranty.

Refurbished equipment

The majority of pre-owned equipment BASE IT supply is offered in refurbished condition having been cleaned, fully tested and returned to its original operational status prior to shipment.

BASE IT will undertake the following prior to shipping any pre-owned or refurbished hardware:

• Testing – Systems stripped for individual component testing and inspection.
• Cosmetic Refurbishment – Complete dust extraction and surface cleaning.
• Build/Configuration – Servers, storage and networking solutions built to your specification with hardware diagnostics on completion.
• Software Imaging & Data Erasure – Pre-supplied software installation options and hard drives data wiped to industry standards.
• Packaging & Dispatch – Orders professionally packaged and dispatched via trusted carriers With access to the inventory of a large number of suppliers worldwide, BASE IT have the capability to source even the most obscure piece of hardware.
